Gourmandise de Paris ~ French / Australian Cafe - Pyrmont

We stumble upon a couple of casual looking French cafe/restos on Harris Street, Pyrmont. Both joints look great, we toss a coin and pick Gourmandise de Paris.

The menu is a mix of French and Australian cafe numbers. You can get a bacon and egg roll with bbq sauce and a side of snails. If you want to. Yes, it's Paris on Harris, with a bit of Parramatta.

Gourmandise de Paris is relaxed and affordable, far from the usual foof and expense of French dining anywhere outside of France. Sitting outside watching the world go by we pretend we are back on our month-in-Paris trip, it's a stretch, but the French accented staff certainly help.

We will be back in Paris in May for 24 hours and it's the workaday cafe\bistro food we look forward to the most, Gourmandise de Paris is getting us right in the mood.

Salade Chevre Chaud - $18. Goat cheese on toasties with honey, apple, walnuts & mixed salad. This would be our favourite dish here so far.

Salade Champignon - $18. Mushrooms, goats cheese, roasted eggplant, sweet potato, zuchini and mixed salad. A good veggie salad.

Rillette d'oie - $15. Rich lardy duck with bread & bits. We are big rillette fans and this was a beauty, even if the bread-to-rillette ratio was a out of whack. We're extra happy because we recently bought some surprisingly shithouse rillette from Victor Churchill, soooo salty.

Bavette a l echalotte - $20. Flank steak with shallot sauce on top, like a light onion jam, with chips and salad.

Croque madame - $15. A ham and cheese toastie with an egg on top. This looks just like one we had in Paris. It never tastes quite as good as Paris, even if it tastes exactly the same, because we are not in Paris. This is a good thing, otherwise what's the point in travelling?

After lunch head East down Harris Street until you hit Miam Patisserie. This pumpkin number is the best sweetie we've eaten all year.
