Cang Chinese restaurant is hidden behind the bushes at the end of the little pedestrian mall in the new bit of Mascot. The menu is interesting and the cooking is top notch. It's a gem.
With a sorta view and super duper nice staff Cang is a pleasant spot indeedy, we like to hit Cang after the lunch rush subsides, it packs out.
Wide noodle soup with lamb - $12.80. We love a lamb soup and this is one of the best we've had - a beautiful lamby meaty broth, cloudy yet thin, almost milky, with thick flat handmade noodles and super thin sliced lamb. We've been back again for this one, it was just as good the second time.
Stir fried short and wide noodle with pork (or beef, lamb, veg, chicken, egg) - $12.80. The same awesome flat noodles as the lamb soup above, cut into rectangles and fried up with a touch of wok hei. Awesome.
Shredded chicken salad with lime sauce - $9.80. A superb cool chooken salad tasted of lime and with maybe a little Sichuan pepper infused in a lovely pool of oil. Highly recommended.
Shallot and tofu with preserved eggs - $7.80. A great version of this classic, this has a big strong soy kick in the sauce, it tastes a little Japanese, and the egg isn't as overpowering as it can be.
Yoshinoya beef with rice - $12.80. We were compelled to try this Chinese take on gyudon, a Japanese dish of stewed beef on rice, made famous Asia-wide by the Yoshinoya chain. It's way sweeter, shinier and Chinesier than Yoshinoya, but delicious all the same.
Cang is at Shop 2, 19-33 Kent Road, Mascot - the new bit next to Mascot train station.
