Across the road from the train station at Lakemba is a small cafe that specialises in Indian breakfast dishes, serving them all day. It's a brief menu, crisp edged dosa, fried wada (or vada), puffy poori with chickpea curry and a weekend khichiri special. This is Indian in and out breakfast, scoop with the bread or fingers and get on with your day.
A Sydney food blog celebrating the world's great culinary underbelly. We are ham-fisted enthusiasts who dig traditional foods, hole-in-the-wall restaurants, and international supermarkets of mystery.

Afghan Sufra ~ Afghani - Lakemba

Island Dreams Cafe ~ Christmas & Cocos Islands - Lakemba
Christmas Island is closer to Indonesia than Australia, but Lakemba is conveniently closer to us. The food at Island Dreams Cafe has a transporting sambal hit, the Malaysian influence in the dishes will get you there faster than a scuttling red crab.

Some time ago we stopped outside Biryani House in Lakemba to check out the menu and a super lovely lady pops her head out the door and welcomes us in. We'd already eaten that day but we promised the super nice lady that we'd come back one day to try her restaurant.

Fuska House ~ Bangladeshi - Lakemba
There seems to be more Bangladeshi joints than Lebanese pizza places in Lakemba these days. Amongst the burgeoning biryani restos is Fuska House, a mix of street food snacks, curries and tandoori.
