1919 Lanzhou Beef Noodle ~ Chinese, Ashfield

Lanzhou beef noodle is one of most treasured of all Chinese noodle soups. It's a magic mix of gentle, subtle, soothing broth, and chumpy noodles handmade just minutes ago.

Seems we're not alone, there's a monster queue on opening day. (We wish the awesome Lanzhou beef noodle joint in Dixon House received such deserved attention, it might still be open).

It's super casual order at the counter/get your own water kinda joint that we love.

Bean curd  - $3.80. Tofu shreds with a surprise chili whack, oh yay.

Cold radish - $3.80. Even the pickled veg has a chili kick, we like this place already.

Lanzhou handmade beef noodle soup - $12.80.  A deceptively large serve, the clear broth is dense with noodles, with some thin sliced roast style beef, coriander, pickled radish and an optional hit of chili (recommended). It's a five star soup, yet we pine for the cleaner, simpler version at the long gone Kung Fu Ramen on George Street, or maybe that's just because it's the first one we tried.

Special pork noodle - $12.80. Lardy spicy pork mince nicely cut with grated veg, with soup on the side.

Noodles can be ordered super thin to super fat.

1919 Lanzhou Beef Noodle is at 247 Liverpool Road, Ashfield. There's one at Burwood too.

  1. I'm with you. I am so sad that Lanzhou Beef Noodle in Dixon House and Kungfu are both gone. Huge loss, especially the former ... I only ever got to eat one bowl - and man was it good. That little stall at Dixon House punches above its weight (the mighty O-San was the previous tenant). Who's there now?? Big shoes!
