Descanso Cafe ~ Filipino - Glebe

Descanso Cafe mixes up standard cafe fare with a selection of classic Filipino meals, all the silogs, sisig and adobos you could want.

You can get a classic burger, steak or a latte at Descanso, but the thing we are here to try are their Filipino meals. There's a scattering of Pinoy eateries in the inner west, so having one close to us in Glebe is great.

Eating in we try the tapsilog ($15), small thin pieces of beef served with the mighty yellow eyes of two fried eggs. While there's only a scattering of the beef pieces, the garlic rice and egg give it a bit more substance. The little dish with vinegar and pickled veg helps as it usually does to cut down the fried fattiness.

The sisig ($15) is served up with just some plain rice and a wedge of lemon. It misses the sizzle of a heated metal plate and the crisp skin 'n' fat pieces of more 'heady' chopped piggy, but it does well for a lunch dish.

Longsilog takeaway style. This was the winning dish for us, those small porky grilled sausages, garlic rice and twin eggs all cutting together in a mix of flavours. There's a generous scoop of pickles 'n ' vinegar and grilled tomatoes to boot. We also give bonus points for the lack of plastic in the takeaway box.

Cardboard takeaway box, yay!

Filipino House Specialties. Must come back for halo-halo.

Descanso is at 1/197 Glebe Point Rd, Glebe.
