More great Sichuan kinda Chinese in the new bits of Mascot...
Shine Food is pretty spacious for a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. This China-meets-Sweden decor is the 2019 equivalent of the old 'Formica table' joint.
With a park across the road it's even kinda pleasant sitting here on a sunny afternoon. But who cares about ambience, we're not here to make friends, we are here to feast. Shine Food does super good Sichuan style food at a super price, with super nice staff - highly recommended.
Sour cabbage with fish fillets - $10.50. This random pick from the lunch specials menu was life affirming on a cold day, this is a new favourite. It's a soupy dish of chunky basa bits with loads of pickled veg, spiced up with a little chili and Sechuan pepper. A generous serve that his filling yet light and pretty healthy.
BBQ lamb with cold noodles - $9.80. It's like a classic Chinese spaghetti. The noodles are warm rather than cold which is a bonus.
Slowly poached salted duck - $8.80. Salty, lucsciouly fatty duck served cold. Yum.
Spinach and clam meat salad - $9.80.
Dry fried cumin squid - $18.80. Kinda like salt'n'peppa squid but with cumin. Highly recommended.
Chongching spicy noodle with soup - $9.80. A big hearty bowl of spicy chili broth, noodles and beefy chunks.
Shine Food is at Shop 1 198 Coward Street Mascot. Phone 9138 6405.
