Snorting Pocari Sweat is a health hazard.
I never did find the mythical schoolgirl used underpant vending machine in Japan. But I did get addicted to Pocari Sweat, a Japanese sports drink introduced in the 1980s and now popular all over asia. I only tried the stuff to see if tasted like sweat. It doesn't taste like sweat, though it is just a a little salty. And it's not as sugary sweet as Gatorade, you can really gulp the stuff down, brilliant for hangovers. Now I'm hooked. I need a big two litre bottle of the stuff to get a fix. But the big bottles are hard to find in Sydney. And don't give me the powder sachets, it clogs my nostrils.
Fortunately Maruyu Japanese Supermarket at the southern end of Clarence Street caters for Pocari Sweat junkies, dishing out big two litre bottle of the stuff for anybody with the yen and the itch.
It's the Korean edition of Pocari Sweat. It's good but not quite as good as Japan. Keep a bottle or two in the pantry for serious hangover therapy, you won't regret it.
This Japanese TV commercial explains everything you need to know about Pocari Sweat. Not.
