A croque monsieur is a ham and cheese toastie, but not everybody gets it right like Lavie & Belle.
Shawn's mum likes to lecture us about a how croque monsieur must have cheesy/bechemal top, and this one does, it's a beauty.
Flan naturelle is a sweet pie we got hooked on from patisseries in Paris, and this one really does taste like one from Paris, unlike others we've tried around town. In front hogging the limelight is a two finger thick slice of bread and butter pudding.
The baguettes are outstanding - definitely worth spending fifteen minutes on the 352 bus - we will make a trip across town just for one of these to have with dinner.
Lavie & Belle French Bakery is at 100 Fitzroy St, Surry Hills, just a schooner's throw from the Cricketers Arms. Friendface.
Dasher the wonderdog is still on Crown Street in spirit and shadow, to greet us and lick curry off our fingers.
We love these groovy designs in an office building porch on Foveaux Street.
Surry Hills isn't so bad after all.
