Victoria Noodle Restaurant Review ~ Hong Kong Chinese - Chatswood

Victoria Noodle Restaurant is just like a Hong Kong coffee shop, only it's in Chatswood.

Had we not been to Hong Kong we would think Victoria Noodle Restaurant is just dang strange: a Chinese restaurant that also serves borscht, luncheon meat sandwiches, toast with condensed milk, spaghetti, not to mention tea and coffee served in the same cup. But now we have been to Hong Kong we are smarty pants know-it-alls. Victoria Noodle Restaurant is just like a Hong Kong coffee shop only more spacious,  not quite jam packed, and it's in Chatswood.

It's the Chinese interpretation of western dishes that intrigues me. I didn't try any western dishes in a Hong Kong coffee shop on our recent trip, so this morning I seize the chance. I order the daily special from the board: borscht with bread roll and butter; choice of ox tongue with bacon and gravy, or pork chop with herb and cream sauce, served with rice or spaghetti; plus tea or coffee. All for $13.

The borscht is a tomato soup with a chunks of beef and some veggies. It is simple and tasty and wouldn't be out of place in an RSL club. The white bread roll is very sweet, just like Hong Kong, lovely with butter and dunked into the soup.

The coffee wasn't like the coffee I had in Hong Kong, it actually tasted like coffee. The coffee I had in Hong Kong coffee shops was weak, milky and pointless. Give me the Victoria Noodle Restaurant version any day.

For the mains part of the special I chose the pork chop with herbs and cream, it is served with spaghetti or rice. I've gone this far into the unknown, how could I not choose spaghetti? The sauce tasted more like flour than cream which is probably how it's done in Hongkers, but it was well cooked, the sauce wasn't lumpy and the pork chops were plentiful and delicious (when isn't a pork chop delicious?) This dish would surely get you booted off Masterchef but it was lots of fun. I ate the lot and secretly enjoyed it, though I was STARVING hungry.

Miss Chicken is a sucker for novelty and was compelled to try the 'Self Choose Cart Noodle'. Tick the boxes and build your own noodle soup. $11 with four choices of fillings, $1.50 per extra filling.

She went for egg noodles, fried pork skin, pork meatballs, Chinese broccoli and marinated egg. A nice strong broth.

The marinated eggs were tea smoked and to die for. When your partner gives you half of something this delicious, you know it's love.

  1. I normally go to Hong Kong Kitchen which is closer to the station, but this place is nice as well. Their set menu is such a good deal.

Go up 2 levels and there's a nice Korean restaurant. They have $10 lunch deals which are quite worth it.

  5. Appears like my kind of place, love noodles. I have been in Chinese restaurants/fastfoods at Mandarin Centre in Chatswood always looking for noodles. The marinated egg looks intriguing, isn't it similar to century egg? I would love to have some of those spaghetti with pork chop.

  6. Hey Carl, the marinated googy egg was divine, not overpowering in flavour like Century Egg, yum!
