Auburn is the suburb that just keeps on giving. Not only are there great places to eat, the supermarkets have a lot of fascinating products that we just can't help but buy and try. We picked up this interesting looking packet last time we visited.
Shawn has a special attraction to green food. He calls it Simpsons food for its bright colours and infantile attractiveness. I am a sucker for things with nuts, so pistachio flavoured anything is always going to be a winner in our house.

We just love saying the name of this mix. Puding. Like Poooooding. It must be good, it's made by a doctor. The front of the packet says it has a great texture and flavour.

It's basically a custard mix of sugar, corn starch, pistachio pieces, colour and salt.

All you need to add is 500ml of milk.

The mix isn't as green as I thought it would be, but there are tiny pieces of pistachio in it as promised. The smell of the mix is quite fragrant, like cookie dough.

Pour the milk into a saucepan and add the mix. Heat the milk on medium. Just like making a white sauce or custard, you need to keep stirring it or it will start to stick to the bottom of the pot. It will thicken up in a few minutes. Allow partner to lick stirring spoon.

Pour the result into little dessert dishes. Although it states this mix is for four I only got three smallish dishes out of it. Maybe I needed smaller bowls.
The kitchen really smelt quite fragrant when cooking this dish. I let the bowls drop their heat a little before putting them in the fridge to cool down further.
The result? A sweet milky dessert with a fragrance of nuts and some small bits of pistachio. Not unlike a custard mix. Freaking awesome. We would love to try the real deal.
We bought this mix at a supermarket in Auburn on Auburn Rd, near to New Star Kebabs.
I love the colour of the powder - makes me think of moon dust!
ReplyDeleteThe little bits of pistachio could almost make it a bit of moon dust. I hope the moon smells and tastes as good.
DeleteIf your in Auburn again you should try out a new korean fried chicken place in Lidcombe called C Bar (Shop 7, 46-50 John Street Lidcombe) which offers a range a dipping sauces, fresh kettle chips and korean beers
ReplyDeleteAh yes we saw that joint but forgot about it - thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteYay! Glad you got to discover the joys of Turkish süper markets.
ReplyDeleteWe love our trusty Dr. Oetker - next time try the white-coloured Muhallebi. It's amazing, somewhat resembling Turkish chewing gum!
On the shopping list for next time, thanks!
